TECHNICAL QUESTION:

Why is my internet speed way slower with LAN cable plugged in? Does long LAN cable affect speed?

Hope someone can help me, thanks very much.

It does, but it should barely be noticeable.

First thing to check is faulty spot on cables, if cables are fine and dandy might as well check the ethernet converter you're using is it high speed converter? Is the usb port where the converter is plugged in a high speed usb2 or usb3?

Cables should be atleast cat6.

USB to RJ45 adapter supports gigabit network over usb2.0 with up to atleast 480mbps bandwidth.

So either use wifi if unsure on ports and converter being used. 🙂

Try updating the drivers for your adapter. Download the drivers from an official source. Looking at the picture you posted, it's an RS1081B.

A quick search indicates it's a Realtek USB 2.0 adapter capable of 10/100mbps transfers. Since your laptop is already running Optimus, it should have at least 2.0 ports.

@Matina Thank you. Trying it right away.
