Declining a job offer.
So a client sent me an invite last night, okay naman yung usapan kumbaga, good to go na contract na lang ang kulang. Today, he messaged me again and said na gusto nya ibaba yung hourly rate that we agreed on ($7.5 yung orginal he wants to change it to $5). Note that the job requires you to process orders, process returns, and refunds, answer emails and manage their social media accounts plus 1 day off lang. $7- $7.5 talaga ang nirerate ko na pag ganito so I told him na hindi ako pumapayag.
Nakakalungkot lang kasi his answer was like "I am not sure why you can't take the $5/hr when I have other Filipino Freelancers willing to take it for just $3/hr."
I get it, some of us are just starting our career and are willing to take lower rates just to build a good profile, but guys, kung ganun ang workload, I don't think anyone deserves that, hindi makatarungan . Nabababaan ako sa totoo lang. And to be honest, isa to sa mga reason kung bakit ang baba ng "tingin" satin ng mga foreign clients.
Sana wag tayo pumayag ng ganito ang treatment satin ng mga clients. Parang love lang yan, know your worth and don't settle for less. Cheret 😁😘

I agree sa line na know our worth pero sometimes like newbie na bago sa industry like me na pinagtraining pa ng boss tinuruan from zero knowledge. For me it depends sa sitwasyon eh. Kung tenured na and knowledgeable kna tlga sa job offer why not to rate yourself ng mataas pero kung zero knowledge ka at nasa learning stage plng din naman at gusto mag homebased why don't we start from low rate. I'm not against sa pag decline na ginawa mo kasi maaring you are really pro na tlga.Marami sting pinoy gusto mghomebased kaya marami din ang papatol sa $3 per hour or less than.
Sometimes ang “know your worth” talaga ay hindi lamang sa relationship applicable. Nakakalungkot yung mga ganyan. 😞

Ganito kasi, yung iba binabarat skills, divers ang tawag kumbaga, eh tayong antagal na sa industriya minsan ako mawawalan NG gana, kasi nga yung iba dito daig pa mga Pakistani sa baba NG presyo, isipin MO 5 sa ganun ka crucial na trabaho, careful po kasi tayo when it comes to processing especially pera involved, pero yung iba divers talaga. Abay ewan.
my kilala din po akong ganyan. Ilang years na din sila sa ganyan work pero tingin pa din sa sarili nila e newbie pa rin, mas mabuti na din daw kesa sa wala.
Guys I am not saying na mali mag offer ng mababang rate lalo na sa mga newbies. Like I said, I get it. Pero kasi kung mamimihasa sila na "Ay ang mahal ng rate mo eh eto nga si Freelancer XYZ willing kunin ng mas mababa sa inooffer mo eh" Di ba? Tapos yung workload hindi naman din ganun kadali, plus 1 day off lang. Case to case basis parin naman pero sana wag naman yung sobrang baba
just let it go, if the client really need you he or she will really hire you, some hire some dont. know your worth
I get your point po. Pero for those who are only starting and without vast experience pa sa scope of work, $5 is a good start na I think. Tbh, I'm even doing the exact same tasks at approximately $4.5 an hour and I'm with my client na for almost a year. For me po, if this kind of opportunity comes in and wala, as in wala, talagang ibang choice personally I'll go for the $5. Ang dami nang aspiring mag work from home ngayon and bibihira na makakita agad nang clients especially for those who are only starting. Hindi po kasi lahat nabibiyayaan ng ganitong opportunity. Kung refuse po tayo ng refuse, baka wala na po tuloy dumating kasi most clients are just like us din—naghahanap ng ways na maka less sila. We always say "know our worth," but for me (personally lang talaga ha), $5 isn't bad and the tasks mentioned aren't too heavy to do (again, para sa akin lang). Not to mention karamihan sa atin may mga pamilyang binubuhay.
(Just a note about my client: He's very generous and provided a 13th month pay last December and even added a bonus so I could start an HMO plan for my family. I don't think barat sya.)
I guess you can tell naman na you're a pro and it makes the difference.

share ko lang, i have this client, before who offered me a job, he wanted me to work with him again, he asked me kng serious b daw ako mgtrabaho kasi nga ngddlawang isip dn ako mgwork sknya at d nga nya ko sinahuran he offered me $2 at dahil newbie ako cge na lng kasi i want an experience, kaso nun d nya ko sinahuran kya ngddlawang isip ako, e ngmessage sya, sbi ko i will be serious enough if you will compensate me properly and fairly
You cannot take it against those people who are willing to take the job at 3 or 5 usd. Remember, they don't have the same opportunity that you have. Wag nman natin maliitin yung mga kukuha ng jobs at a lower rate. We don't know their story.
Exactly. Even agencies na mga pinoy ang nagpuput up $3/hour rate ang inooffer (with experience pa ang hanap) nila wherein pwede naman na mas higher tlaga. Know your worth eka nga. Pero sad lang na naging practice nadin na grab nalang ng grab kahit di na makatarungan ang offer 😔

It is really case to case basis, for me if I am a newbie at wala pang client, I would go for it.
But if I have 2 or more clients na, I will decline. Why? It is time to get premium clients to have more income but less hours of work.

Almost one year akong hiatus as a writer kasi buntis ako at nanganak a few weeks ago lang. So the last couple of weeks, nagstart na ako ulit mag-apply kasi medyo okay naman na ang sleeping patterns ni baby so kakayanin kahit part time.
I've been receiving offers na lately and work slowly starts to fill my sched. Then this certain client, gusto niya akong magwork sa kanya full time. Ang gusto niya magsulat ako ng "up to 5000 words minimum" for every 8-hour workday. So ano ba talaga? 😂 But wait, there's more! Babayaran niya raw ako ng $25/day (ang initial na gusto pa niyang gawin kong wordcount eh 10000 words a day). So in short, around $5/1000 words.
Bagong gising ako nu'ng nabasa ko mga terms niya at sobrang nainsulto ako to be honest. Ngayon iniisip ko tuloy ano best way magrespond na hindi naman nang-aaway. 😂
Wala naman akong minamaliit sa post ko, that's just my point of view. Wala rin naman akong sinabi na wag kayo mag rate ng mababa kasi you do you talaga hehe. Like I said, I get it, I really do. Okay naman yung $5 kaso hindi okay yung nasabi niya why he wants to offer you $5. Eh di mag hanap siya nun.
Para sa taong galing sa corporate world ang laki na ng $3 per hour compare mo sa 500 pesos per day.. so tatanggapin nila ang $3 per hr kesa wala dahil malaking tulong na sa kanila yan.. and kung newbie pa at hindi nmn confident sa skill nya eh tingin nila $3 lng tlg hayaan mo na kesa mahal ang rate pero pangit ng work o di pa pala expert.. kung sa tingin mo expert ka na wag kang tumanggap may mga client nmn naghahanap ng expert and willing to pay big may mga client nmn na di kailangan expert o magaling basta trainable o marunong at low rates
Depende po talaga sa kaso ng tao. Meron talagang tatanggap lalu na kung walang experience at nagsabay na kailangan mong kumita at kailangan mong mag gain ng experience. Pero kailangan kasi prove muna ang sarili bago ka humingi ng mataas. Pag may napatunayan ka naman makatarungan ang naging contribution mo sa company then ask for a raise pag hindi binigay hanap ka na ng ibang kayang magbigay. pero sa simula patunayan muna ang sarili at unahin na mapakain ang pamilya sa halagang $3/hr.

kung ako newbie at me nag offer sken ng $3 per hour why not? kung ako tenured at me regular client na ako bat ko i aaccept yan? case to case basis pa rin naman ung mga ganito.
Tanungin mo kung is he hiring you for your "race" or is he hiring for your skills?
Dahil dumadami na ng sobra ang gusto mging freelancer at mag work from home dahil sa mga naririnig nila na malaki kita at success stories, nagiging race to the bottom ung iba. Tatanggap ng $2-$3 per hour tapos sobrang bigat ng workloads.. kahapon lang meron ako prospect sabi ko lowest ko $13 per hour abay gusto ba nmn $5.00 ksi daw sinabhan sya na un lng daw usual rate sa pinas buti sana kung entry level pinapagawa nya eh kso merong animation. Mapapamura ka na lng tlga.
People are in different situations. Those who offered or accepted the $3/hr rate might be in need and that $3/hr is a big help for them.
First off, everyone is entitled to their opinion may it based on experiences or where they are coming from. For me, knowing your worth can be subjective and sometimes requires proof. Say, that’s your worth but result/performance says it’s not or the other way around. So, it depends if you can keep refusing but still able to feed mouth, pay bills and all. As for those who are good with a minimal start, it doesn’t end there. Most of the time, when they see your true value or worth, and the impact you contribute to the business, you will be rewarded with promotion, increment in salary, travel incentives, insurance, job stability, etc. The experience says a lot but sometimes practicality goes a long a way and helps you in difficult situations. Just my 2 cents.
Agree! This kind of clients doesnt deserve great VA like us chereeet! Lets not beg for our worth. The world is soo big and we have soo much to offer. Definitely we’ll get premium clients.
yung ibang work from home naman kasi, ni 1 dollar an hour hindi worth pasahuran. yung matatagal na sa industry for sure kaya tumagal yan e ginagawa nila work nila ng maayos. Biglang dumami mga homebased workers na barubal na nga makipagusap, masyado pang mataas tingin sa sarili, pag nahire naman puro may tech issue, di magwowork ng matino, tapos maghahanap ng payout. jusmiyo. For those who ask for high rates, for sure mga matatagal na yan na marunong talaga magtrabaho. Di yung mga dating natutulog lang sa call centers tapos narinig lang na mataas kita homebase biglang nagshift, dinala dito pag uugali nila.
hmm.. depends I guess? I just started. I sent a proposal (so you know na, upwork platform ko) this month (specifically Jan 7) for a one time fixed-rate job na 20 USD. Yung job was just to download yt videos and convert it to mp3. Sabi ko noon, I can do that in an hour.
I thought it's a good opportunity to start my profile. And I got the job on set. Pero nung sinend na nya sa akin yung mga links ng yt, tumbling ang lola mo😂. Minimum of 2 hours ang isang link tapos max ang 10 hours! Ay wala akong alam na free na converter sa kahit saan na pwede magamit (noob na noob).
What I did, I searched for the source of these videos and took it from there. I had to use an app to combine them again to be the same time as from the original links. Imagine the oras? For 20 USD (wala pa bawas ng upwork jan), I finished the job ng 15 hours (2 days). Ambaba ng return noh? Pero ngayon, this same client offered me 2 exclusive jobs. One is fixed (ongoing) and the other an hourly (ongoing din). My profile stated I am charging 5.56 USD (matagal ko na create tong profile na to pero ngayon ko lang ginamit. So yung rate na yan nilagay ko lang since wala pa ako idea noon ng kalakaran). He offered 5 USD and I took it. Mababa oo pero... ang workload juice ko. Maghanap ng emails na pinost sa mga real estate websites.
Yun lang. Ako mismo I feel na not worth binabayaran ni client sa akin 😂. Kasi ambagal ko pa magsearch. Pero tyaga pa naman sya sa akin so keri... Now ang tanong, if I'll be working with another client with same work, magkano pay? No idea. 1st client ko to
Again, I am not saying na it's wrong. Sabi ko nga dun sa isang comment ko case to case basis talaga ang hindi lang okay is why he wants to change the hourly rate. $5/hr is not bad at all. Ang pangit lang kasi ng reason nya kung bakit ayaw nya tanggapin yung unang inoffer nya na rate.
Trueee. Grabe. Lagi nila isasagot yung " I have other Filipino freelancers that willing to take this job for $3/hr" .. and when they say this. I always tell them "Not being rude sir, but you can go ahead and hire them." Heheheheh! 😂😂 Pero ang ending ako pa din ang ihahire. Nakakalungkot po talaga to kasi yung iba talagang ginagrab nila kahit mababa ang rate tas yung workload grabe kasi ang reason nila is "kailangan" nila. And hindi natin napapansin sinasamantala yun ng mga Client kasi alam nilang kailangan.
Jobs we decline can be a blessing to someone. :) Let's just hope na they can get higher rates once they already have enough experience as a freelancer. And hopefully, there will be more clients who appreciate experience and quality for the right price.

Yes, decline the job politely so it can be given to someone who needs it. Sa company namen we offer 3.25 base rate subject to yearly increase but long term job yan. Yung iba working for 2 yrs up to 5 yrs na. Xempre tumaas na ang sahod ng iba. Plus HMO plus bonuses pa. Tama ka super baba nga. Pero it can feed a family din for a year or two. Kesa naman $7 nga pero every month or two nawawalan ka nmn ng client. Alin ba mas better? Well, Depende sa tao.
It just means he is not your market. Although I agree with knowing your worth, you also cannot compare where you are now to those who are just starting up. Just move on to another prospect.
100% agree! I started last June 2019 as a Social Media Manager/VA with $8/hour and now it's $20-$30/hour depends on the retainer package na inavail saken ni client. KNOW YOUR WORTH. Alam niyo ba na ang starting sa ibang countries ng mga newbie VA is already $25/hr? When I learned about this, narealized ko na I should change my mindset na hanggang $8 or $10 lang ako.
My rate is NOT based on my nationality but it is based on the QUALITY of the work that I'm putting.
If you know your worth, you will attract the right clients too.
I have a client offers me $4/hr pumayag ako since 1hr lang naman sya saka mas interested ako sa matututunan sa knya. One year higit na ako pero till now hindi nya ako dinagdagan rate ko. Nagsabi na ako na give up na ako sa work nya pero he refuses nahihiya ako kase baka isipin nya nung natuto ako iiwan ko na sya. Ano po gagawin ko? Task is very easy stress free talaga but no need for additional hrs kase kahit less than 1 hr magagawa ung task. What do i do po?
No bashing po, wag na natin pag awayan to ang maganda mag share tau ng positive suggestions and thoughts. Hindi naman natin sila masisisi kung tanggapin nila ang $3 sa hirap ng buhay and majority ang reason is to learn and at the same time to earn kahit konti habang natututo. Now if you are equipped with knowledge edi hanap na lang ng mas mataas na rate ganun lang. Anong laban ng newbies sa mga skilled na? Wala diba? Okay lang yan sis! :) May track record ka naman na since you're an experienced VA and results don't lie lalo na sa quality ng work kaya tama naman na mag charge ka ng higher rate. Makakahanap ka din ng client na makikita yung value na kaya mong ioffer sa company nila <3 Thank you, next nalang hehe!
As for the $3/hr, nag umpisa din ako sa rate na yan in 2018 nung kakasimula ko palang magVA kasi wala pakong track record to back me up pero alam ko sa sarili ko kung pano ako trumabaho so tinanggap ko ung offer BUT I told my employer nun na if after 3 mos, maganda yung evaluation nya at happy sya sa services ko, eto na yung magiging new rate ko. If not, aalis ako. Nagkataon din na makatao yung client ko na yun at nakita naman nya yung point ko so he agreed. Fortunately, all things worked out and he was more than happy to grant me more than what I asked for kasi napatunayan ko yung worth ko sa kanya. So let's not judge people who accept that rate kasi may pamilya din silang binubuhay at hindi din natin alam where they're coming from. Mahirap din kasi i-oversell mo sarili mo pero kapos naman kapag singilan na sa output. Balanse lang :)
As for me, my client just started his Ecommerce. He says he will give me a raise after 3 months if I get to perform well. I am starting at $300/month. processing orders takes about 1hr, processing refunds rare only in Shopify, answering emails takes about an average of 3-6 emails a day. Also, I should be checking/answering with facebook comments and messages usualy they come in PST time so thats the only time Im checking facebook. Do you think for a start $300 is okay? I need insights please. Thank you
